Why Liberty School
|
The Liberty School was founded in 2007 to provide a model learning and growing environment for children in 1st – 8th grade. Student curricula are individualized to fit the needs and strengths of each child – dyslexic, academically gifted, or twice exceptional. The Liberty School has flourished under the guidance of Joyce Bilgrave and Bill O’Flanagan and features experiential learning, affirmation of personal creativity, good citizenship, and a passionate staff dedicated to supporting children both academically and personally. Watch the video “The Liberty School in 17 Seconds” Our Mission The Liberty School’s mission is three-fold: 1) to provide optimum educational opportunities for dyslexic, twice exceptional, and academically gifted students to help them realize their intellectual, social, and emotional potential; 2) to be a resource for parents, educators and other professionals in the 4-corners area; 3) to offer an outreach to the community by way of informal meetings, guest speakers, workshops, teacher training, and a biyearly conference. Core Values Uncommon Excellence: We are dedicated to offering an educational experience that develops and enhances excellence in the students we serve. Creativity: Ingenious inventions, insightful ideas, divergent theories, and creative expressions are encouraged and cultivated by our flexible and dynamic approach to teaching. Love of Learning: We believe that scholarship and a love for learning in its broadest sense can be cultivated even in young minds. We involve students in direct experiences that enable them to find the joy of discovery that will endure for the rest of their lives. Heart: We offer a loving and supportive educational environment that responds to the special awareness and sensitivity of our students. Community Diversity: Community and diversity among people and ideas are cherished. We encourage children to respect and appreciate differences, to work together, and to inspire each other. We welcome students of all races, colors, religions, economic backgrounds, and ethnic and national origins. Exceptional Faculty: Creative, energetic, experienced, and sensitive teachers exemplify the zeal for learning that we strive to instill in our students. Dynamic Program: The curriculum is dynamic. It is constantly being adapted while maintaining a constant of proven educational soundness. Small class sizes enhance the learning experiences and a sense of personal identity. Partnership: Parents, students, school staff, and other members of the school community actively working together in partnership are the foundation of our success.
